“Mama Is That A Man?”
A Boy’s Journey On The Road To “Man Town”
Boyhood to Manhood Is a Journey
Manhood is a mental destination. Because of the rapid changes in society and the disintegration of the nuclear family little boys are forced to make their journey from boys to men without a clue as to which way to go, what to avoid, or even a model of what a man is supposed to look like. Bad decisions can cause a boy to destroy his chance to reach responsible manhood before he ever gets started.
- Where is the guidebook to help boys grow up to be real men?
- What are the traps and pitfalls that must be avoided if a boy is to be a man?
- What is the real standard of being a man?
Look No Further
The answers to all these questions and more are found right here between the Pages of … “Mama Is That A Man?”
This fantastic book can be the greatest tool for single mothers to know how to talk to their boys about manhood. It is a road map for young boys and a wake up call for all males to be men.
Thomas Paine inspired the American Revolution with a little book called “Common Sense”. This “Mama Is That A Man?” may also inspire a revolution that can free our boys from the tyranny of irresponsibility and the slavery of ignorance.
Timing is Everything in the Making of a Man
The question is asked, “When is the most crucial time to work with boys on the road to being a man?”
The most crucial time is between the ages of 9-13. This is the reason I have created a program to help Sons make informed decisions about being a Man. This program is called The Road To ManTown. The curriculum includes The book “Mama is That A Man?” and The “Man Town Training Manual, entitled “The 7 Miles To ManTown.” The question arises, why is 9 to 13 such an important period for boys?
Let’s first address the question of why this training must be done between 9 and 13 as it relates to the boy himself.
- This is the period right before their friends and peers declare all out war against all authority and particularly parents.
- This is the age that boys began to want to act on what they personally understand and believe and not just orders they receive.
- It is at this age they are gaining a sense of self. It is an age of thinking and questioning.
- It is right before their friends reject any notion that the reason they can’t participate is because of parents.
- It is a time that boys will chose their values from either their peer group or the values of parents and adults.
The second part of the answer to this question centers around all the mistakes boys may be prevented from making by simple teaching and persuasion. Generally boys at this age are at the crossroads. They are still deciding about drugs, sex, anti-social behavior, and education.
